Today started well. I ate breakfast at a Weatherspoons in Chester before heading east.
The weather very quickly closed in and rain began poring. It didn't stop all day. At one point there was even lightning all round me for an hour.

The first half of the day was pretty flat and fast moving. But as I was between Liverpool and Manchester it was a very built up area. I went past Bolton, Preston, Blackburn and pretty much every city in the Premier League. Going through these areas in the heavy rain and in rush hour was very challenging and I even took a few wrong turnings.
I saw a McDonalds and decided to treat myself. The guy behind the counter saw me dripping and gave me sponsorship money because he said anyone brave enough to be out there deserves it.

The last 15 miles to Slaidburn were very difficult. The youth hostel is surrounded by very high hills, 1000 ft hills. Honestly I walked up some of them. It took me over an hour but I made it to the top. When I got there I was greeted to a cup of tea and told where the only place you could get phone signal was. Then I went to the common room sat in front of the fire and chatted to the other people there.
Tomorrow looks to be another rubbish day and lots more hills. Really dreading it.
But on the plus side....HALFWAY!!!
